Community Partnerships

Community partnerships are an essential part of our school ethos. Our community links are a part of life at Penboyr School. We value the importance developing strong links between the school and the community.  Working with local volunteers contributes an important role in enhancing our pupils learning and experiences, which support the curriculum.

We have dedicated reading volunteers from the community who support the school by listening to the pupils reading.

We encourage community involvement by inviting them to participate in our curriculum activities, fundraising events, concerts and special assemblies.  As a church school we take pride in our community church services led by our pupils, eg Christingl, Easter, Harvest and Christmas. The collections from our services are donated to support local charities and good causes such as Plant Dewi or Air Ambulance.  Last year the collection contributed to setting up our Sunday School.

We provide opportunities for all pupils to take part in local community events.  The pupils enjoy participating in village activities from singing in the launch of the village historical society, entertaining at the Old Peoples Home and recently singing at the unveiling of a plaque in the village. We feel that these community based activities and experiences are paramount to community-school life and create broad and exciting experiences for pupils.

Visitors from the community and wider community are invited into school to talk about their experiences; these are linked to our curriculum topics.  We have visits from Bishop Wyn Evans, the bard Ceri Wyn Jones, members from the historical society, an ex British Airways pilot, the renowned artist Helen Elliot, and our resident artist to name but a few.  As well as visits from the local police and fire service, our local gardening club has helped us with our school garden and we are also having help to build our recycled greenhouse.

We are very proud of our community cohesion and like to think of the community as part of our school family, referring to our school’s mission statement,

‘As one family we learn together’
